About me

Hello! I am a Cumbria-based artist, who has always enjoyed creating handmade items & decorative art, but having followed a more science/maths route through my formal education and career, I never really shared my work beyond family and friends – until the COVID-19 pandemic led to a period of unemployment and (plenty of time to practise) – and I decided it was time to take the leap and go public!

My paintings are mostly done with pen and watercolour, but I am currently experimenting with acrylics. I particularly enjoy busy detail, colour and pattern, and I have always loved architecture and interesting buildings.   Incorporating these inspirations into my art, I have developed a carefully-detailed-but-slightly-wonky style, which reflects my left-brained, spreadsheet- and number-loving, analytical mind.

Here you will find my small-but-growing portfolio of work, which includes portraits of houses and local Cumbrian town centre shop fronts, as well asĀ arrangements of colourful plates of food on marvellously patterned tablecloths! You can also scroll through my sketchbooks, or through photographs that have formed my desktop computer screen backgrounds over the years, and also through a selection of handpainted tiles from a fabulous Delft-style tile commission I did in 2021.

Some of my artwork is available in the form of prints and greetings cards, which you can find on this site in my website shop.  I have also created some unique lampshades.  I welcome enquiries for commissions to paint a  building portrait  of a home or business or special venue. These make wonderful personalised gifts.

When I am not painting or ‘crafting’ something, I enjoy exploring the quieter parts of the Lake District, taking photographs, participating in club-level orienteering with my family, sculling on Derwentwater, paddleboarding on Bassenthwaite Lake, and trying to stay coordinated at a very enjoyable weekly tap dance class. Since 2021, I have taken part in several international rowing machine challenges, including a successful relay to ‘statically’ circumnavigate the world, and trips down the Mississippi, up the Nile and on a Viking route across the Atlantic from Iceland to Newfoundland.  When not involved in such rowing machine ‘challenges’, I avoid the wretched machine like the plague!
