Wire bugs. 2014.

Inspired by Wire Bugs – How to make your own Menagerie by Odile Wailly. The photographs were taken when the bugs were on our windowsill, and blemishes and marks on the pictures were there on the window and the sill… a shame, because the shadows and the bugs were quite impressive!

Hand-painted fireplace tiles (Delft-style). Commission 2021.

I was lucky enough to be asked to produce enough hand-painted tiles to decorate a large Cumbrian farmhouse fireplace. I had never done anything like this before, but I collaborated with a wonderful local potter, whose advised me on underglazes, and did all the glazing and firing of the tiles. Before I delivered all the tiles, I laid them out on my driveway, and photographed them from above… The variation in colour was due to different firings, and variation in crackle (to look aged) and non-crackle top glazes.
